Entry & internal doors
Front doors, French doors and internal glazed doors — the piece most people notice first.
Legacy/Commissions
Commissions
Thank you for considering Legacy to design your personalised leadlight. Trained from a long line of stained glass masters, no technique is unfamiliar to us. Our designs are contemporary, while also reminiscent of the traditional values of this trade — each window unique to your home, influenced by your own colours, ideas and interior architecture.
Made for one room
We tailor your window to your personal taste, in your home or business, and we install and remove windows ourselves.
A commission starts with the room it will live in — its light through the day, the period of the house, the colours already in it, and what you want the space to feel like. From there the design is drawn to scale, glass is chosen and sampled against your light, and the panel is built by hand in the Blue Mountains workshop before being fitted into the opening.
Each window is unique to your home.
Legacy works closely with architects and interior designers to deliver a piece that adds warmth to a new or restored opening — and is equally at home retro-fitting character into an existing one.
What we make
Designed and made to fit the space, and installed properly into it.
Front doors, French doors and internal glazed doors — the piece most people notice first.
The slim panels beside a door and the arched or rectangular light above it, worked as a set.
Single sashes through to full runs of windows, from a bathroom highlight to a stair-well wall.
Free-standing and fixed internal screens that divide a space while keeping the light moving through it.
Sideboards, bookcases, cabinet doors and joinery — new panels made to a maker's drawings.
Federation sunbursts and Deco geometrics above doors and windows, drawn fresh or matched to a surviving one.
Character glass specified into a contemporary build, working to the architect's openings and schedule.
Panels made to hang in a window rather than glaze it — a commission that moves house with you.
How a commission runs
We visit or talk through the space — its light, its period, what you want it to feel like — and take rough measurements. This part is free.
Scaled drawings and glass samples, held against your window and worked until the composition and colour are right. Nothing is cut until you've signed off the cartoon.
Each piece of glass is cut to the cartoon, leaded, soldered on both faces and cemented by hand in the Blue Mountains workshop.
Fitted properly into the opening, with the old sash or frame restored where it matters — or delivered ready to install for a build.
Featured series · Australian Native
The brief was the movement and colour of the angophoras, but also the story of someone looking out through the branches to the horizon. The design was drawn around the light in a Wentworth Falls home surrounded by those trees, and the white glass was chosen because of what the afternoon sun does to it.
When the light hits the white glass it shines gold — a realistic effect of looking at these beautiful Australian trees.Start a commission →
Style range
Historical fluency — Australian native studies through to Art Deco Style Moderne — reworked for the room it hangs in rather than copied.
“What I am after, above all, is Expressionism.” — Matisse
Kirby Sharrock studied painting at Sydney College of the Arts and moved into glass, carrying a painterly eye into a fixed medium. The work is inspired by a love of the past and an urge to place it in the contemporary. See the portfolio →
For architects & designers
Legacy is used to coming in on a set of plans — reading elevations and window schedules, site-measuring and templating openings, and coordinating with the builder so the glass lands at the right point in the program.
Kirby and the studio are experienced glaziers, so install and removal are handled in-house on both new and restored openings, and the finish is detailed to sit with the joinery rather than fight it.
Materials & craft
Cut, leaded, soldered and cemented by hand — the same way the windows we restore were made.
Commissions use antique, mouth-blown and rolled glass alongside contemporary art glass, joined with traditional lead came and finished with linseed cement. Kirby learned the bench from old-hand glaziers — “real MacGyvers who use thin chisels and measure to the half millimetre” — and the studio holds to that standard.
Common questions
Most run six to twelve weeks from signed-off design to install, depending on size, glass sourcing and the studio's schedule. Larger or multi-panel jobs take longer. If you have a fixed date — a renovation hand-over, a wedding, Christmas — say so early.
Yes. Federation, Victorian, Deco and mid-century idioms are all part of the studio's range, and a new panel can be drawn to sit with existing leadlight elsewhere in the house.
Both. The studio installs across the Blue Mountains and greater Sydney, including removing and restoring the existing sash where needed. For builds outside that area, panels can be made to template and delivered ready to glaze.
It depends on size, the complexity of the design and the glass. The first conversation and a rough budget range cost nothing — you'll know if it's the right fit before any design work starts.
Yes — sample boards are held against your light as part of the design stage, because the same glass reads completely differently north-facing versus south.
